Foster

Foster homes are the key to what we do! The more foster homes we have, the more lives we can save.

By fostering a cat or dog for a limited time, you give them the best chance at surviving and thriving in a permanent home. As a RezDawg Rescue foster, you choose the animals you want to work with, and you and our adoption coordinators help your animals find their perfect homes, either through an online application process, in-person adoption events, or, for cats, through placement in one of our partner pet store adoption centers.

Fostering FAQS:

Foster opportunities are available from a few days to several months. The average commitment is 2–4 weeks. We work to match you with the right animal for your home and availability.

RezDawg Rescue will provide food and supplies and will pay for medical expenses associated with fostering. If you choose to purchase supplies for your foster pet, what you pay is a tax deductible donation. Fosters are asked to use their own vehicle and gas to transport their foster animal to the vet as needed.

We currently have fosters in these areas:

  • Denver Metro Area (Littleton and Arvada)
  • Northern Colorado (Boulder County, Loveland and Longmont)
  • Colorado Springs

If you don’t live in one of these communities, ask if we would be able to support you where you are located.

We provide a lot of support to help you gain confidence as a foster with a comprehensive training program that includes orientation, a foster manual, and access to a private Facebook group for volunteers. You will have a Foster Parent Coordinator (an experienced foster themselves) who will provide mentoring, supervision, answers, general support and face-to-face meetings as needed.

Absolutely. As long as foster parents meet the Rez Dawg adoption requirements, foster parents typically have the first choice to adopt their foster pets.

In order to foster a pet you must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have identification showing your present address.
  • Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord.
  • Be able and willing to spend the time necessary to provide training, and transport to both vetting and potential adoption appointments.
  • Complete the online Foster Application (Email us if you prefer to fill out a printable form and can scan and email it to us.)

Transport & Intake

Each year we transport an average of 1,650 animals into our care or to our partners. Rescuing dogs and cats from the Four Corners region of the Southwestern U.S. keeps our team busy! We coordinate directly with the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo, and communities in Gallup, New Mexico, as well as high-volume shelters in the area. RezDawg Rescue uses its multi-vehicle transport fleet every week to safely deliver animals in desperate need to Colorado.

The animals transported to Colorado year-round not only go to RezDawg Rescue volunteers’ homes, but also to a network of nearly 40 transfer/rescue partners in Colorado and beyond. Transport is a critical aspect of RezDawg Rescue’s work, as the number of homeless animals in the Four Corners region vastly outnumbers the potential adoptive homes in the area. Without RezDawg Rescue’s constant efforts to relocate animals to where they can land to a safe space, tens of thousands of adoptable dogs and cats have no chance at survival. If you love animals and driving, fill out a transport waiver today!

Animal Transport Driver: Drives the RDR van, transporting dogs and cats between New Mexico and Colorado and within Colorado using our new, customized Dodge Promaster 2500 with interior kennels and supply cabinets. Must have large vehicle driving and parking experience and provide animal care enroute. A CDL is a big plus.

Assistant Transport Coordinator: Helps to organize transports, meets each transport on the Front Range, ensures we have the correct paperwork for each animal, scans documents, and meets foster parents as they arrive to pick up their fosters.
